Difficult Service Termination

After discontinuing my land line service with Verizon, Slomins made it very difficult to terminate monitoring service. Fortunately I was no longer under contract, but what they don't tell you is the alarm will beep on and off because of the lack of a dial tone. Six customer service people gave me 6 different options to stop the beeping. Finally had to unplug the system, but guess what? It beeps when there is no power! Last conversation with customer service told me to wait until the back-up battery died. And of course since I terminated monitoring they are completely unwilling to help now. Stay away from this company!

did they make you mail something back? i'm in a similar situation and they told me I have to call their cancellation department & they'll tell me what to mail back...i'm baffled.

CROOKS THIEVES LIARS! Avoid Slomins no matter what!

First, they charge about $1.50 OVER MARKET price (currently $3.39, when $1.89 is easy to find), and no I don't have a fixed price contract. In return for these outrageous prices they offer an all inclusive "service contract". However, they do NOT honor the service contract. Even the yearly maintenance has to be scheduled 6 months in advance ... and all they do is vacuum (it is not a proper maintenance). Thieves, crooks, liars, STAY AWAY! Also, they will harass you (and I mean HARASS) if you try to end the contract, even though they claim you can quit any time. When I called to end the awful contract, they passed me to a "cancellation specialist" who insulted me and harassed me, I am only glad they did not talk to my wife because rude awful people like Slomin's "customer support" usually make her cry.

WAIT ALL DAY FOR A BADLY LEAKING HOT WATER HEATER

I called on Monday to report the hot water heater is leaking underneath. I have a contract for full coverage and pay a premium for #2 home heating oil.

The 800 number scheduled me for Wednesday. Well, its Wednesday and all day, I mean all day I have waited for a service person. I have not received a call informing me of a window or when the service tech will arrive. It has been a wasted day in the life of a contract customer.

I called twice and was told they do not even provide a window of a service call. EXTREME DISAPPOINTMENT

try working there,,they over work us we get harassed and intimidated if we don't want to work past twelve hours,,on your scheduled day off they call all day to get you to try and come in,,so after a while it gets old and its like so what its cold out

No service for 13 hours on freezing day.

I have a service contract with Slomins. Called for service and they did not come for over thirteen hours. Pipes froze and caused thousands of dollars in repairs. No apology ,no return call. Supervisor not available despite my repeated calls to speak to management. I was ignored. They of course deny any responsibility for my situation. Update Jan 10, 2015: Friday evening Jan 9, received call from Slomin’s, confirming oil delivery scheduled for Saturday (Call No. 7) between the hours of 7AM-4PM. (Remember I received this type of call on Wed the 7th as well.) Saturday morning – 7AM, woke to house that is now at 49 degrees, surprise, surprise have run out of oil!!!!!! The wonderful call center by the way challenged me yesterday and inferred that I should stop worrying because per their calculations I had 2 weeks left of oil; I gather since we have been having a heat wave LOL) Called Slomin’s (Call No. 8) to confirm that indeed oil is coming, sort of got a confirmation of that. However they are sending a technician out as well for the following: 1. To bring 10 gallons or so of oil for which I will be charged AND 2. For the kicker - to check that since I ran out of oil that no sludge/dirt got into the line. I have sent my 91 year old mother in law to a neighbor for the day (and night?)

Basically, they SUCK!

Had an issue with them overfilling an oil tank to the point where the inner lining exploded! They could care less and tried to sell be a new tank. In the meantime the 2nd tank I had could not accept new oil until they rectified the bad tank. Promised a call that never came for 3 weeks! Finally on a Thursday I called the maintenance stupidvisor and he promised an emergency delivery that never came. Ran out of fuel on a freezing, cold Sunday night and when I call was told the technician would arrive at 9 am on Monday. When he came he even said to dump Slomins! Can you imagine that!? Their own employee advised me to cancel the contract. He was the most honest person in the company!

Funny I've never worked at an oil company that did boiler cleanings on a weekend,,is that like a city thing..?? The *** ricin city that never sleeps,,if you were in this business you would understand,,,you selfish inhuman ***

I would have them remove the thermostat and take it back. A thermostat can be purchased either at local hardware or larger home centers.

You do not need to pay more then $100 for a top of the line ,bells and whistles thermostat to a plain thermostat costing less thern $20 dollars.

Have them take it back, a complete rip off they charged you

HOW'S THIS FOR SPENDING ONES TIME TRYING TO ENSURE I HAVE ENOUGH HEAT WITH A 91 YEAR OLD IN MY HOUSE SINCE THE TEMPS WERE TO GO TO ZERO FOR THE WEEK: MONDAY JAN 5, NOTICED TANK GAUGE IS LOW (UNDER A 1/4) AND ITS BEEN MORE THAN A MONTH SINCE LAST DELIVERY. CALLED TO SEE WHEN NEXT DELIVERY IS. TOLD IT'S WED THE 7TH(CALL NO. 1). I FULLY UNDERSTAND THAT AN OIL TNK GAUGE CAN BE INACCURATE. CALL ON WEDNESDAY THE 7TH AND TOLD NO DELIVERY SCHEDULED (CALL NO. 2) GAUGE IS NOW SOUNDLY ON ZERO. I COMPLAIN TO THE SALES PERSON WHO DID OUR CONTRACT (CALL NO. 3), SAYS HE CANT HELP BUT SOMEBODY FROM SLOMIN DOES CALL IN THE AFTERNOON AND SAYS WILL HAVE A DELIVERY THURS-FRI (CALL NO. 4). JUST CALLED NOW ON FRIDAY THE 9TH (CALL NO. 5) AND FIRST TOLD NOT SCHEDULED AND THEN PUT ON HOLD AND THEN TOLD DELIVERY TRUCK WAS THERE BUT COULDNT DELIVER BECAUSE OF SNOW....I CLEARED THE DRIVEWAY OF THE 1/2 INCH OF SNOW AT 6:30 AM!!!! THE ROADS WERE CLEAR AND SCHOOL BUSES WERE ZOOMING ALONG. WAITING FOR CALL NO. 6 NOW TO SEE WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO NEXT IF ANYTHING AT ALL. THE FALLBACK FOR THEM IS FOR ME TO RUN OUT OF OIL AND CALL EMERGENCY TO WAIT AND I GUESS GET 10 GALLONS. NO WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS.

They constantly wait to purchase oil at a lower price so they profit the most when they deliver. When you call, ask the days price of oil.

You can call other companies from the penny saver and get a way lower price and speedier service.

Dont let those commercials on cable fool you, they are a vicious profit driven entity.

They will brow beat you at some time you do business with them. They also prey on the elderly , also call you with unwanted services like home alarms, and will overcharge you for anything not covered by your contract.

Horrible Alarm System!!!!!!!

System never worked right from day 1. I would have cops showing up at my house at 9:30 at night, telling me that they received an alarm signal when alarm wasn't even set. This happened about 15 times before the dumb *** at slomin's figured out that my alarm was actually wired through someone else's system! (If that's even true). So I moved and tried to cancel my service. They told me I would be charged a $1200 cancellation fee, but they would offer me a settlement of $595. I told them don't do a *** thing until I go back and read my contract - because I know good and *** well that I was not told about this bs. ZERO STARS!!!!!!

SLOMINS scared my neighbourhood into thinking we were going to have a bad winter with high heating oil prices so we should lock in a fixed price...a month later heating oil is a dollar lower than our fixed price...THEY KNEW THIS IN ADVANCE !!!!!! we are stuck for 750 gallons of price rape !!! customer service is practically non existant,when they do answer their phone your greeted with an attitude ,have to wait a year for a clean and vac , im a sap and am stuck now , as soon as I make my obligation thay are gone forever !!

I am right there with you. I live in Vernon, NJ and they came door to door offering a fixed price of $2.89.

After last winter when it was almost at $3.80 I jumped on it.

I'm also a huge sap because right now I could get it for $2.49. Once contract is up they are gone for good as well.

That's the chance you take on a fixed price.when oil prices went way up did slomins call you and ask you if it would be ok to raise the price per gallon?i guess they were the saps back then

Slomins - Oil Review from Hewlett, New York

I supposed to receive my oil delivery on Sunday 1/25 and I didn't, the REP said the " hold " was released on the 25 so I'll receive it by the 28 ( what hold are you talking about, and why don't you explained it to your customers so they will know how your system is working!!!? Today is 1/28 and I didn't receive any oil , I called and told that I will receive my delivery tomorrow on the 29! This is horrible customer service!

They wait to pick oil up at the fuel depo for lower prices so you pay the premium price. At one time they charge a small profit but the owner wants to be kept rich and drive expensive foreign luxury cars, you know how that goes.......

Even today at the oil exchange on the NYSE market oil for home is $1.97 and Slomins charges $3.72 a gallon.

The lady /girl that takes your call lacks an education and totally lacks customer service training.

You know hiring the uneducated to answer phones will leave a customer dumbfounded at the response from the company representative.

I sincerely think you should call around to other oil companies, since this one is into alarm systems and lousey service. They are suppose to clean your boiler yearly, but thats not cost efficient for company profits......shame on them.

A joke of a company

If you are looking for security don't allow these people any place near your home. The owner cares about one thing and one thing only employing his friends.

let's start with his COO a life time friend who was unemployed before he was hired to run his company. Or how about an entire basketball team that is on the payroll. I was a former employee and have their system,however they could care less about their employees or customers. The few people they have that actually know what their talking about the (vp of sales and the vp of marketing) look like have aged 10 yrs from the stress trying to make this company run.

Their families must love that they care more about slomins then the little kids they have at home. These are 2 talented guys that can run the company with their eyes closed.The rest of them are close to retirement so what do they care. The equipment they use is good and state of the art as they claim but if you have a problem with the system you might as well call another company. I am a former employee and I might be bitter but these are facts.

I just signed with vivint and yes I might be paying a bit more than slomins but I get more.

I can control my doors, lights and my alarm for a few bucks more. I worked at slomins for 2 yrs and didn't even know an alarm system could do these things.

Slomin's is a wonderful company to work for. They provide generous benefits and a great product and service.

It's too bad that some disgruntled people seek to hurt a company that has a stellar record for over 90 years and is the largest private security company in the United States of America.

I am also a customer for both residential alarm and boiler service. From a customer point of view, I have received only the highest quality service and attention from this wonderful company.

Well you were lucky and probably employed there. I have been a long time customer for now I find out disorganization, mismanagement, shoddy customer service, and one disappointment after another.

The emergency service calls are deplorable and any call will leave you with, "we dont know when the service man will arrive and they no longer do yearly maintenace on your boiler.

A complete rip off of a company and a disgrace to what it was years ago. It appears rednecks are now running the operation, so good luck and failure is coming......

Any one that actually knew something and did their jobs right are gone, forced out by greedy management so they can hire cheap labor at half the cost. these people are tyrants.

its not the employees fault. They are bullied by management to do shoddy work but when something goes wrong they fire the employee.

For example the service manager for all heating gas and oil never really did the work, but fires employees at the drop of a hat if something does not go right with upper mgmts. approval.

No heat for hours

We called service for no heat at 5:30pm, at 11:00pm they said we were next. When we asked approximately how long, they said 2 hours. This is not even during a storm! Every time we need emergency service we wait for 6-10 hours! Their service stinks and I am beyond pissed! They do not understand the meaning of good customer service! I do not and will not ever recommend their service! There are other companies out there that know how to get their service people to their customers in a timely manner. Do Not Use Slomins! Their Customer Service Stinks Bigtime!

Terrible Response

New customer. The following is my opinon based on my awful and incredibly frustrating experiences. They are the worst! In my opinion there service contract is a sham and scam. They are clueless. Completely screwed up our burner, ignored or failed to realize despits my wife telling them we were out of oil. Cleaned the same parts on 3 different times before realized DUH.........we were out of oil!!!!!! And then..... I called them around 9:30 pm last night when I got home because there was soot all over the place from the boiler. "Stephen" the phone operator told me I could keep the boiler on depite the above. Really! Let's see, if the soot builds up it will catch fire. Thank goodness I called a friend who does service and shut it down. The contract specifically states this is an emergency situation and they will respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a week under these specific circumstances. NOT TRUE. After promising to send someon in 2-3 hours I get a call back telling me they won't be there til between 8am-11am the next day. DESPITE THE CONTRACT!!!!!! The next day some idiotic supervisor tell us 24 hour service really means they can get there 24 hours from when they know. WHAT!! That's complete bull. They specifically have a non-emergency clause in the contract. Everyone knows 24 hour service means they come out at all times of night. I suggest they don't want to pay the time and a half to their workers. Of course the next day I call them at 8;15 am and they tell us we are first on the morning service list. REALLY! Four phone calls later during which we are promised someone within the half hour. They show up at ..... 10:55. And of course they don't send the poor service guy with a vacuum to clean out the boiler (which by the way has soot up to the top of it!!!). ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! So, he has to call the company and ask them to send another guy out here with the vacuum!!! He arrives at 11:45 am. My opinion: STAY AWAY FROM THIS HORRIBLY RUN COMPANY. THEY ARE CLUELESS AND GIVE YOU DANGEROUS AND *** ADVICE. This is the worst oil company we have ever experienced. EVER!

What a joke

I had an issue with my optical sensor and called and was treated like I was a criminal when I called to ask them what my options were to get it fixed. They had no problem trying to get me to upgrade the system for another 5 yrs.I complained to them on their Facebook page and guess what they got back to me in mins. They should teach their monkeys how to speak to customers when they call and have an issue. They must have a bunch of college kids managing all their online social media outlets with the childish blogs and bs posts. What a joke, I am so glad I don't have to deal with them any more.
