Slomin wll not resolve my issue

Updated by user Dec 14, 2013

Today is 12/14/2013, & as of today, I haven't received any call or email or written statement or information from Slomin's since I put my complaint on this website. I see that people have reviewed my complaint, but nothing from Slomins.

I hope that the people who reviewed my complaint & plus the other people who wrote about their bad experience using Slomins have thought about using Slomins as their alarm company.

I wouldn't refer my worst enemy to this alarm company to protect my home & family. BE AWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!!

Original review Nov 14, 2013
I purchased a system & had service problems - They wanted to charge me a service call fee for a install problem (They used a subcontractor) & I cancelled my service right away & they expect me to pay the full contract price! I have tried numerous times to try to resolve the issue & now they have turned it over to a collection agency & they still want to charge me the full price. I asked them to come & remove the equipment & they won't even do that without me paying the full balance & then also a service charge to remove their equipment (By the way, the equipment installed was "outdated equipment according to my new alarm company) My suggestion to anyone looking to get a system from Slomins - BE AWARE! They do have NUMEROUS complaints against them - Including the BBB & various other agencies.

No heat for 12 hrs

Call in for service for my mom and dad 82 and 80 years old. Going on 12 hrs no call and no service.

Called in tonite still have no time frame, state a lot of customers without heat. I asked if they can contract out and they said no. So they want elderly people to freeze. This was a mistake by my father to sign with them, they lower the price to 3.39 to get them to sign.

They have the worst service techs out in this industry and as a whole company they do not care about you the customer. Do not sign with this company many others on Long Island 100 times better.

I concur... its 59 degrees in my house, my daughter is young.

They came out to my house and said it was fixed and within 20 minutes my heat was out again. I called them right back at 10pm and its now 6am and they are telling me between 7-9 but they can't guarantee that. When I purchased this plan they said that I would be PRIORITY...

well this isn't priority and then for them to put me back at the end of the list after coming out and NOT fixing my heat is absurd... unfortunately i am stuck with them until october but when this contract is up I am definitely OUT OF HERE.

Guest

Sorry to hear this, but it is not the service techs that are at fault it is the office, especially management. With the temps being as low as they have for so long and this in the future they should have hired on extra men.

even if it was for just the winter.

A majority of slomins service techs are especially good and care about the customers. lets not put the blame on them.

Guest

Having had oil heat in the past I feel your parents pain. Is there any way you could bring them over to your house.

Til the heat comes back on.

With this cold weather it could be a while til they get it fixed.

Slomins Holds the Deceased to Contracts

My mother passed away and had a personal security system. When my brother called to cancel the 5 year contract she signed they claimed that it couldn't be cancel.

According to our lawyer, all contracts ceased upon death. They pulled the same thing when she moved into her home. The previous owner had a contract and they said that she had to fulfill the 5 year agreement that woman signed. They are predatory!!!

Never sign a contract with Slomins.

I had their home oil system and it was equally as bad. As soon as my contract expired, I refused to renew.

Exact same problem. At 82, Slomin's had Mother sign a 5 year contract.

Yesterday, I faxed a request to cancel and a copy of her death certificate to Slomin's. They called today to say that an invoice would be sent for a termination fee. I asked what type of termination fee and the customer service rep replied $922 - the cost of the remaining months on her contract. He told me to turn the bill over to the attorney who handled the estate.

I told him there was no attorney and the "estate" was closed as the house was sold and contract holder is deceased. We'll consult an attorney now.

Definitely avoid this company.

Oil tank removal

Still trying to get Slomins to pump oil out of tank in crawlspace after my 86 year-old uncle used them to upgrade to gas heat. I called in Feb'13; they said they have 1 pump truck and we'd have to wait until they had enough other pump out requests to make it worth their while to send out truck, most likely April'13.

I told them then that contractor was working on house and needs to get tank out so they can finish repairing everything on first floor that was flooded by Sandy.

Now that new floor is installed, Slomins says they can't pump oil without opening up the floor; that they can't extract oil via hose in crawl space or from outside where they fill tank. Really? How do they do regular conversions to gas?

Do they drag hoses through living rooms and cut up floors? I also am paying someone else to remove the oil tank because prima donna's at Slomins couldn't do it via crawlspace; they wanted to cut hole in floor for that also.

Slomin's website support stinks

Trying to access the website. It keeps throwing the login page up. The rep says it's an internet problem. Try using Firefox. I use IE 7 and it works fine for everything else including this site thankfully. I can't wait till my contract is over so I can dump them. Trying to access the website. Slomins would not service their alarm equipment

Back in Oct I called Slomin's alarm service phone number to report to them that my alarm does not work. I was asked all pertinent questions about who I am, my address, my acct #, my last 4 digets of my ss #, the last bill I have and finally my security word. I told them that I never had the need or opportunity to resite my security word. I tried hard to remember it but could not. The customer service person, Connie told me she could not send a service tech to my house to repair their alarm system because I could not remember my security word. I told "Connie" the customer service person to please put on a supervisor to help. She put on a supervisor named Christian. He was very beligerent with me and insisted on that security work. I told him I gave you my ss#, my name, my home address, my account #, my secuity code # and my last invoice and that he was coming to MY HOME to repair the alarm who else would I be. He would not set up an appointment and told me it was my problem and my responsibiity to remember my security word. He than sent me a letter threatening me that if I dont continue to pay for the service Slomins would sue me.

Slomins Shield is here, now pay me.

We live in one the hardest hit areas on Staten Island, there's now looting, home invasions, robberies, and *** artisits that scope you out to rob your house later. I would think a buisness that specializes in security would understand not only the gravity of that situation, but also that the entire community has lost everything and we're pinching pennies to just get back home. After calling to reinstall the system that we originally had, they told us it will be $1200 to reinstall. They also said it will be $1300 to terminate services. Many companies have been understanding and have replaced lost equipment with no cost in understanding they are ensuring happy customers, and continuing services. I guess The Shield is not one of those companies.

They won't release your system back to you

Slomins is a nightmare to deal with at customer service. They will not release the alarm system back to you and freeze it by taking it over with their access code. I have met my 5 year agreement and they have refused for 5 phone calls to reset our system. Remember that you own your system, not them. Do not go with this company. they are dishonest, difficult and deceitful. They do everything they can to keep you with them. This is a very unethical company. And during our 5 years, they often never called in our alarm. Their monitoring is poor.

Slomin's - Failed to Provide Service

We had a heating furnace service plan with Slomin's. For regular maintenance, Slomin's was unable to give a time window and they expect you to be home at all times. In terms of emergency service, Slomin's was always delayed and did not show up at all. It seems that they do not have enough repair people in the field. Customer Service was rude and unable to resolve the problems. We canceled the plan, it took over a month and multiple telephone calls to get a proper refund. Do not use Slomin's for home heating furnace service.

You should try working there,, there is no 24 hour service. It in reality means someone will answer the phone.

The night shift there ends at midnight , maybe a little later,, if someone has worked twelve hours they are not gonna work anymore ,, especially the way the mechanics are treated,, they make you a promise they know they can’t keep and dump on the mechanics shoulders which he can’t hold it’s too heavy ,, remember we are not first responders we are home appliance repair,, and weather you think it’s wrong or right the reality is myself and many others aren’t looking to kill ourselves over a machine,, the company is trying to do more with less,, be honest with yourself how far are you willing to go at your job when your being treated like ***.It’s a lose lose situation for us both,,

I have the same issue with Slomins not complying to their service contract. Also saying unless you with out heat or hot water the are 1 week out to service!!!!!!

Maybe if they were a customer base company and gave A *** about people more people would work for them then against them...I will do all I can to stop anyone I know to sign up with them.

Their lock in price is just a come on to losy service.

No Security from Slomins!

I am appalled at Slomins customer service. Our home was badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy. We were displaced from our home for over 3 weeks. When we finally moved back home I called Slomins to tell them that my panel had been submerged in salt water and I would need a representative to come out and assess the damage. I was given an appointment 2 weeks later. I asked to speak to a supervisor where I explained how my whole community was in turmoil and many homes were still vacant, I also explained that there was a lot of looting going on in the area since almost all of the residents in our community have been displaced and the looters knew homes were unoccupied, then I explained how my husband works nights and I would be home alone with my two toddler aged children alone and how because of the situation I would feel unsafe. You would think that a home security organization would be understanding to my situation, but I didn't think they were understanding enough. They did bump up the appointment a week but that means one and a half weeks unprotected. We've been through so much the past few weeks that the last thing I need is not feel secure once I'm able to return home.

Took money for a fire alarm system back in Jan. Now is Jun.took a 2600.00 deposit. Am fighting back and forth to get my money back. Now is June. No equipment and are sending me quarterly service bills. Would never recommend to anyone. When called the salesmen back for a refund. Joe Pugliese started cursing me out because I told me he was responsible for the money he took from me. I am here to make sure that no one ever has to deal with the b.s that I had to deal with with this worthless thieving company

Slomins Security

Great service, thank you Slomin's is family owned, and has been since 1923!!The equipment used by Slomins is cutting edge and up to all industry standards. Slomin's employees are thoroughly trained and experienced in all aspects of their jobs. Ive had a slomins system for 12 years and have never had a single problem. Installation was neat and clean, service extremely efficient and their customer service is extraordinary. I also have worked with Christopher Vitale in the oil department and he is sweetheart, knowledgeable and understands his customers needs. I use S;pmons for heating and security they are #1

"great service" comment above is clearly & obviously from an employee. You can go to dozens of "rip off" and "review" websites and read all the complaints from real customers about Slomins. It's actually quite pathedic the amount of complaints.

Guest

we have had this service for over 4 years, we were led to believe that if you purchase a service contract your unit would be serviced. Paid over $200. for service contract that will not covered the main box which was never mentioned when the sold us the plan...so now we are out $233, no alarm and we are being billed for an alarm that doesn't wor....scam I will make sure every hears about the Customer service we got and how we were scammed

Slomins Dispute

Do not sign a 5 year term contract with SLOMINS as they will sue at the drop of hat. Their contract is not clear and they will easily sue for any money they feel are owed and will make your life miserable.

Stay Away from this company at all costs!

Lost job but still made payment until last two periods. Offered to finally pay monitor and lawyer fee...still suing for that amount plus all equipment that was installed in 1998. 13 years ago!.

There are many much better alarm companies out there. S T A Y A W A Y!!!

I'm a former Slomins employee. If you think what you guys experience is bad well it's nothig like actually working there. You may think disgruntled employee but I'm not as I chose to leave after seeing abhorid practices that border illegal. The day I left was truly a happy day. I may skip around as there's so much to write so enjoy: please note these are from personal experiences and direct knowledge from working there for several years.

First off never sign their 5year monitoring contract. The entire worth of their alarm system is about $300 if anything I'd reccomend getting a renters agreemt, you have to pay the $300 upfront and they'll keep your money if you cancel before the 3yrs but you don't have to worry about a 5yr agreement which they will sue you for over $2,000(the early term fee goes down as time passes). I'd give a pass to their customer service if its horrible its because they are made to work long hours and often FORCED TO SKIP BREAKS AND LUNCH. Forced to go in no matter what the wether is. There is little to no insentive to be a good worker as most of the management is either family or friends of the current CEO(son of the owner). The management know little of the business and sort of pick it up along the way. The previous Customer Service manager knew nothing of the business but he was Jason Slazmans best friend and he treated the customers like garbage and always assumed they were wrong. This manager allegedly had an affair with a customer service employee who one day just disappeared. He just stopped coming in. She may have been smart and sued. Or she was dumb and let them fire her as is often the practice allegedly(ill use that often). Mr Salzman from what any by standard, employee or onlooker could see enjoys surrounding himself by athletic black men who play basketball(maybe he wants to be a basketball player but I think it'd be hard for a short overweight Jewish man to join the NBA). Now I say surrounds himself as he picks people off the street an gives them positions with in the company sometimes even as managers with no experience. He flies them all over, takes them on vacations allegedly. Yet he is extremely homophobic, well with people who are *** and out within the company not that there are many that stay. The work environment is stressful at best. There is a lot of sexual misconduct that allegedly happens by the Alarm tech supervisor who harasses many of the Customer Service women. When they complain or go to HR they are often forced out of the company while he continues to stay there as he's Jason Salzmans very good friend. The current manager was a teacher and was recruited by Jason because he coached basketball. He shares the management position with the son of the Head of the alarms. This man Mr. Hecker has his entire family working there so thats their credentials. pretty much you have to have their last name. They even stuck his youngest son in the IT dept there. lol. Now those are credentials for a Manager! And many people wonder why the customer service is horrible. Think twice about contracting Slomins for either oil or alarm. Btw there are no 24hour mechanics that's a lie the latest the mechanics work is roughly 9pm during the winter and the first get in at 6a that's why when you need a service call they tell you there are customers who have been waiting for hours. The only helpful one in CS would be the cousin of mr Salzman who is a supervisor in CS because obviously he wields no power in that company and often has his hands tied to do anything effective to change the company. But I'd reccomend speaking with him his name is Adam he is the most helpful of the bunch as he "owns" the company too. Well his mom does. If he had any real importance he wouldn't be subjected to being a supervisor in CS. Just so you know they receive the letters from the better business bureau and often laugh. There's no point in writing corporate complaints as those just go to the customer service manager. There is no customer retention as they are more interested in new customers.

There are very few employees that have been there very long as after a number of years many are replaced by people who make less. Or many leave because they can't handle the stress, hardly ever getting raises, often over worked with no benefit, no possibilities of promotions(although a short skirt will go far). Overall the company is disgusting all around.

If you no longer have Slomins but the customer service won't help

You when the keypad starts beeping and you hear the famous "2 power sources" by CS reps here's what you need: this is true of any alarm not just Slomins , it's an black battery plug usually located in your basement it will be in an electrical outlet. It looks sort of like a cell charger. The other power source is the 9v battery that's inside the actual panel box. That's the metal

Box that looks like a medicine cabinet. Now how hard is it for them to tell you that. They will tell you it's because anyone can break in but the truth is they want you to open up an account w them.

As a new customer of Slomins I am furious of their customer service. I called twice with an issue of my burner shutting on and off running like *** because they scheduled a cleaning six months into the year. Never heard of this. They want to send a tech next week a week later to repair my burner. Are they out of thier minds, I will take this to what ever level I have to make them look bad!!!!!!!!!

Seriously!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I had read your review before I signed the infamous "5 year contract". Slomins had the worst customer service I've ever dealt with in any situation.

They're a disgrace!

I would, never, ever use them. I'll be sure to everything I can to spead the word to everyone I know to never use this company!!

Waited over 6 hours for service from Slomins

Slomins has a horrible policy for service. They give a 5 hour window to be home and then they showed up after their scheduled time. A Lisa from customer service was so unconcerned that when I said I wanted to cancel my service she said that was up to me. The service tech who called me to tell me he was on the way was uncaring as well. He just wanted to know if I was going to cancel or have him show. I was thinking of canceling but I just signed a contract so I decided take service today.

Why wouldn't the tech call? Depending on the time and what the problem is there is no reason a tech wouldn't call their next customer.

It also doesn't explain why the office wouldn't call and say the tech was tied up.

Sure other companies of all sorts, cable, water, electric, make you wait. Doesn't make it right.

There are plenty of companies who DON'T make you wait. Or at least explain if there will be a delay

Guest

Service techs don't call the customer. The dispatchers do.

If the tech ran long fixing a problem at your house should he leave before he's done so he can make his next appt on time. I guess Slomins is the only company that makes you wait.
